Description

The Austrian philologist and diplomat Georg von Hahn and the English geographer Edward Stanford (19th century) studied the Arvanitic dialect for many years and reached substantial and similar conclusions: the first, noting that this linguistic idiom, in addition to the abundance of Greek vocabulary, also has Greek structural and syntactic elements, which according to the Bulgarian academic Vl. Georgiev, are not borrowed, led to the conclusion that the original language of the users of this foreign idiom was Greek. The second concluded that the Albanians have ancient Greek origins and that they are Hellenized. The present research justifies the acumen and wisdom of the two aforementioned scientists, with the difference, however, that out of the three tribes that coexisted with the ancient times, only the Iapygians were Greek.
