In terms of performance and quality, it doesn't reach the level of the Sigma art 1.4, but at least it has half the weight and half the price. It is fast, silent, and works exceptionally well in video. It hasn't had any issues for the past two years.
Ideal lens for portraits. In combination with Sony's 35mm, this lens completes the basic package for the photographer. Very good performance even at low apertures. Excellent in low light situations where you really need good performance from a portrait lens. The only negative thing one should pay attention to is the edges, as the performance drops significantly there. Overall, however, it is a top choice.
Necessary lens for portraits! Sharp, fast, silent! The definition of value for money! Having the Sony 55 f 1.8 which is also a wonderful lens, I think that the 85 1.8 makes your life very easy, especially for events and portraits. I don't know how it is for videos. I only use it for photos.
Must lens for portrait photography, very good sharpness, personally I am not bothered by its weight on the a6600. If it had stabilization, it would be top-notch!
The lens is really sharp. I have put it on my A7III with the 24-105 4F lens and it is a wonderful lens (especially for video), but the 85mm 1.8F loses depth of field and is sharp for photography! For video, "be careful" only on tripods and gimbals, it shakes a lot!
A lens necessary for video/photography and I focus more on video because primes are widely used in serious small, medium, and large productions. The reasons are simple, 1) depth of field, 2) manual focus (pulling), 3) aesthetics, 4) speed, 5) naturalness...
I won't go into all of these, the basics are that it is mainly a photographic lens because electric manual focus hinders the standards of cinematography, such as predetermined focus positions from your position and the subject! The focus ring turns a bit crazy without strict stop positions and specific speed... However, because Sony is a leader in autofocus, you can leave it in a predetermined focus zone that suits your setup (flexible point, zone, single point, etc.), it just takes getting used to. After being attached to an a7iii for 5 months with automatic-manual switching, I have very few complaints in cases of theater performances, events, etc.
For photography and video on an a6300 or even on the old 2012 nex vg 30 (aps c camcorder), whether on a tripod or gimbal, you can achieve incredible aesthetics, especially for spots (be careful, it shakes a lot because it becomes 130mm+ on a crop body)... In my opinion, the best performance for low-light conditions is to be close to f2.5, f2.8 for accurate color reproduction and good white balance adjustment... something that concerns many is daytime recording, which has losses above f11 due to diffraction...
Maybe some things are correct, maybe not, because even in cameras of the same type with the same lenses and settings, we have variations, whether in color reproduction or overall image performance to a small degree though... Personally, having tried 2 zoom lenses like the kit 28-70 f3.5-5.6 and the G 24-105 f4 or 16-35 f4 for video, a prime lens is sharper, more faithful in colors, and its performance is more precise, maybe logically because the former have more moving parts, of course, they are more relaxed because you don't have to run and chase your subject... Flawless lens. Excellent sharpness, nice bokeh, fast. The only negative is a slight chromatic aberration in high contrast scenes. I would buy it again with my eyes closed. It has been used for portraits, landscapes, and wide-field astrophotography. It writes a little colder than the 55 f1.8.
Unbelievable Lens! I've been using it for a while now... incredibly fast autofocus... very sharp... great price... you can easily compare it to someone twice the price! It's a must-have for anyone who takes portraits
Very very good lens. I use it on my Sony a7iii and Sony a6000. For its price, it's worth 1000% for anyone shooting portraits. Its quality easily matches the GM. It only has a slight difference in bokeh compared to the GM, but it's half the price and much smaller, so it's a great value for money. I highly recommend it
It is sharper than the 85mm 1.4 gmaster lens, it outperforms any other lens, even the zeiss which is twice the price, the only thing it surpasses is that the zeiss is waterproof
