This is a collective volume in which the authors focus on analyzing the 1940s through a critical presentation of existing literature. It mainly presents the evolution of historiography, as well as testimonies, memoirs, and literary production. The goal of the book is to depict the development of the image we have of that period.

The volume also presents foreign language literature (English, German, Bulgarian, and Yugoslavian) referring to our country. The book also examines specific aspects of this decade (the Holocaust, the city of Athens, political refugees, the economy, military conflicts, local dimensions, etc.).
