It is fortunate that H.P. Lovecraft decided to write this essay on the history, criticism, and aesthetics of horror literature. Not only because he informs us clearly and comprehensively about the origins, authors, and evolution of the literary genre, but mainly because he points out those who influenced or admired him, as well as his views on various topics that appear in his stories. Although he does not mention the greatest horror writer, himself, he speaks to us about the formation of his own art through the study of the works of authors such as Walpole, Stoker, E.
