Description

Until today, it is one of the most "dangerous" issues in modern Greek historiography. There are many reasons why the tragic events were attempted to be silenced, the traumatic experience was rejected, the cost of defeat was hidden, and the Turkish nationalism was romanticized. Based on our current logic, it is incomprehensible that at some point the policy of silence and oblivion was chosen.

The significant historical Greek presence in our Eastern regions was forgotten and the universal character of Hellenism was lost in the South of the Balkan Peninsula. Pontus, Ionia, Cappadocia, Eastern Thrace, became points of reference for the survivors and roads and squares in the new cities of the refugees. For the average citizen, these places were incomprehensible points of reference for some unruly populations. The edition you are holding in your hands is an attempt to calmly and accurately traverse the historical time and present schematically the set of contradictions and key historical milestones.
