"Certainly, if we were lucky enough to have supportive parents, then we have the advantage of receiving beneficial messages from a young age:
"You can be who you are."
"You can think what you think."
"You can feel what you feel."
"You can take your own risks."
"You must search on your own to find what you need, because that means growing up, being mature, and self-reliant."
These privileged children jump on their own from the trampoline and dive into life from a favorable point.
Of course, not everyone is so lucky.
So, those who weren't as fortunate will need someone to help them, even if it's a book like this."
After the international (and Greek) best sellers: "Let Me Tell You a Story," "Stories to Think About," and "Count on Me," Opera editions continue publishing the works of Jorge
Bucay with "The Road to Self-Reliance," the first of a series of four volumes that make up the "Road Maps" of the popular Argentine psychiatrist.
In his "Road Maps," the psychiatrist-psychotherapist prevails over the narrator. The advisory
role, which is Bucay's main professional occupation, takes up more space as, for the search for a hidden meaning, not only a story is required, but also a theoretical background that is provided here for the first time to the reader.
Indeed, in his previous three books available in Greek, we had known Bucay as a narrator, conversationalist, and professional user of parables in the therapy of his patients, but we missed Bucay the doctor, the scientist with a crystallized view of life and his science, who decides to reveal himself in "The Road to Self-Reliance." However, he does not create a "theoretical text," but rather exposes his views on what allowed him to navigate his life as a psychotherapist. He lays out his maps, his "Road Maps," as he would in a friendly conversation where he would answer the question: "Who are you, doctor, and how do you think?"

Compared to the rest of the books by Boukai, I consider it to be lacking. While it is easy to read at the beginning and keeps your interest with the knowledge it conveys, it becomes repetitive and more theoretical as it progresses. From a certain point onwards, it becomes tiring and you constantly read the same things in different words.
Living hoping, expecting everything, that one person will solve all the problems of your life is sick, for example, not being able to live without your wife or husband.
Living completely independent and autonomous from other people is impossible.
Self-dependence is choosing to rely on one person for an aspect of our life, and if we can't find what we want in one person, we should look for another. In other words, from a woman, you can expect to live with her, have children together, share expenses, have fun together, but you can't expect her to go fishing or hunting with you, and a woman can't expect you to learn knitting. Even if you get divorced, you should continue your life by finding another person with whom you match in 2-3 things, not everything. Instead of falling into a state of "Life ends here, blow out my candle."
The book also deals with the dependency of children on their parents, the problem that they live with their parents until their 40s or their whole life, in the same house.
The book belongs to the series "Path Sheets":
Path Sheets 1: The path of self-dependence
Path Sheets 2: The path of encounter: which deals with human relationships, marital, friendly, etc.
Path Sheets 3: The path of tears: Deals with the dissolution of relationships, separation, death
Path Sheets 4: The path of happiness
Path Sheets 5: The path of spirituality
Jorge Bucay is a psychotherapist in Argentina. His books stand out from all other psychology books because he uses stories, fairy tales, and parables, rather than complex analyses, and this greatly helps in understanding his books.
