Description

This edition includes twelve inter-disciplinary contributions that deal with the complex phenomenon of the two major economic crises of our modern history, the 1929-32 crisis and the recent one in 2008 that continues to this day, and their relationship with the youth. The causes, events, and forms of the crises, their impact on Greek youth. At the same time, aspects of the corresponding youth reaction and behavior are illuminated.
The two historical periods are examined in parallel, focusing on the concepts of crisis and youth in their historicity. Crisis is mainly understood as economic, but the social reality that is shaped by its consequences in the political system and governance, professions, and living conditions of people, social classes and their redefinition, institutions and the state, is not overlooked.
The paths of the crisis are therefore not only economic, although in most texts the critique focuses on the market economy, the functioning of capital, and the contradictions of liberalism. Central to these specific approaches is neoliberalism as an economic doctrine and a rationality of governance.
