"Talgo" is the first novel by Vassilis Alexakis written directly in Greek. It was first published in January 1982. A year later, it was also published in French, translated by the author. It was awarded by the French Academy.
It was adapted into a film by George Tsemberopoulos, titled "Sudden Love," starring Betty Livanou and Antonis Theodorakopoulos. It has sold over 200,000 copies.
I closed the apartment door behind me, placed the package on the table, and looked at it for a while. Then I tried to untie the string, couldn't manage it, so I cut it with scissors. Inside the package, I found a small glass bottle, like those from a pharmacy, with a transparent liquid. On the bottle, you had written in India ink: PARISIAN RAIN. I also found this note: I collected it with a pot, from the window. My sleeve got soaked. Grigoris.
And when I stop being in love with you, Grigoris, know that I will be grateful to you for giving me this gift. You elevated me in my own eyes, made me feel like a goddess. When I grow old and people ask me what significant thing happened in my life, this is all I will say: "Someone once gave me a little rain."
