Excellent lens, in low light conditions it is quite satisfactory. I mainly use it for landscape photos and night photos with the appropriate settings, you will have the corresponding result.
For macro, it is better to use the 18-50mm lens as the 50mm lens struggles quite a bit.
For video use, it is not recommended as it does not have image stabilization.
I put it in my Nikon D610 and it is quite satisfactory. Relatively good autofocus, good sharpness especially at f8 and quite lightweight. For its price, it is great and its results will compensate you
Good construction and, like the corresponding Nikon, it fits perfectly on both Crop sensor and FF format. It is less sharp than the Nikon 50mm f/1.8G, but it also costs less than half the price of the Nikon. The construction, as I mentioned initially, is very compact and without any noise during focusing. Moreover, the "N" in its name indicates that it is the new model, which is truly upgraded compared to the first one. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to buy a new lens. As a used lens, it requires some consideration, as there are now many affordable options for the Nikon 50mm f/1.8G. Still, if someone finds it used, they will definitely have an additional benefit of around 50 euros compared to the corresponding Nikon G series lens, I repeat, because the AD 1.8 50mm is much cheaper. So, five stars because someone can get a new good prime lens at a fairly affordable price with good construction, sacrificing a bit of sharpness at f/1.8 to f/2.5. I hope this helps...
Okay, what can you say... king of the night and your pocket. Very lightweight flashlight, quite fast focusing, very good quality construction with a metal clasp. When it focuses, it makes quite a noise, but this will only bother those who will deal with video. However, if you record sound from an external source and not from the camera's built-in microphone, you won't have any issues at all. Satisfactory sharpness, you can see everything very clearly. The only problem I found is that it has a little issue with light... you don't even need to turn it towards the sun, just a lamp is enough to make the image look like a flat profile mode... it blurs everything when it's hit by direct light, but this can be corrected with a little Lightroom editing
I have had this lens for about 6 months now. It has a very nice bokeh but not satisfactory sharpness for professional use. I mainly use it amateurishly for portraits with a blurry background on a low-end Nikon DSLR. It does its job very well. Maybe in low light conditions, it struggles to focus on AF, but there is always the manual option for those who know how to use it. It is a quite bright lens with very good rendering in low light. It is definitely worth every € for a beginner user. Especially the price from China is unbelievably excellent value for money. I also really like the bokeh that the lens produces. I haven't taken it off the camera since I got it. Definitely a 5-star rating despite the little extra noise and the more plastic Chinese construction!
I got it for 75 euros, no complaints during the day, sharp and with nice colors. However, the autofocus loses a bit at night and has some flare in indirect lighting. I have switched to manual focus several times to get a good shot at night. But again, it's only 75 euros, so for its price, it doesn't have anything comparable for a 50mm lens. When traveling, I prefer the dx 35mm f/1.8 due to the crop factor.
Update: After 1.5 years of use, the autofocus started acting up (backfocus). - 1 star because I have to run and find lens service for a 75 euro lens. Eventually, it was somewhat fixed by putting the camera in af-c mode and letting the lens take its time with the click. With the d5300, I miss a lot of shots (1 out of 2 clicks is out of focus if there is not enough lighting).
Update 2022: After upgrading to a d800 body, I made a nice discovery. The lens has noticeable creamy bokeh! It also focuses much better, but I still won't rely solely on it. At some point, I will get a Sigma Art lens to put my mind at ease
A lens necessary for everyone and especially at the price one can find it (especially abroad), it's a shame not to have it. I got it to have it as my main lens instead of the 18-55 kit lens! Bright and fast with satisfactory sharpness, good bokeh, small and discreet!
For its price (100€), it is indeed very good as the other reviews say.
For videos, it doesn't perform well. The auto focus seems to work when changing the contrast of the scene. This means that if you try to shoot a video of a person, it won't come out right because it doesn't focus if you choose the tracking mode or even if you use face priority! The camera detects the face, but the lens doesn't automatically focus! As a result, if you press the button to focus, it has to go through a process of blurring, unblurring, blurring again, and then finally focusing.
Manual focus works well if you have an external monitor (or if the camera has a good screen) because of the smooth ring it has.
For photos, it's okay but you will need to take 3-4 burst mode photos because if you take just one, it will come out slightly blurry due to the lack of Vibration Reduction. Also, clicking twice to refocus (even if it had already focused) helps a lot because it doesn't always get it right on the first try.
Sometimes at night, even though it seems like it has focused, it makes some slight noises without allowing you to take the photo, resulting in missing the moment and looking somewhat off...
However, for a first lens (excluding the kit lens), it is quite good. It gives that "professional look" that many people want at f1.8 with nice bokeh and a nice image if you manage to get it in focus. Given that it is a prime lens, you will have to move towards the subject.
Long exposure at f8 highlights the 7 blades it has, and since it is the sweet spot, it has the best possible sharpness, even in the corners.
It is generally brighter than regular lenses, and the camera doesn't realize this, so you will have to adjust the exposure compensation to -0.7, otherwise there will be overexposed areas that shouldn't be there!
It causes vignetting at the edges, which is not clear until you do lens profile correction in Lightroom.
It has significant chromatic distortion at f1.8 if there is intense light, which cannot be corrected with lens profile correction in Lightroom.
Keep in mind that it is not easy to find a lens hood for this lens, and it will give you some trouble until you get used to it.
If you have 200€, get the equivalent Nikon f1.8g lens as it solves the autofocus problem mentioned above and has slightly better image quality.
If you don't have the 200€, get this one and learn it. It will make you better!

UPDATE about 1 year+ later:
This lens was "gifted" as I bought the Nikon DX 35mm f1.8.
Conclusion: for an extra 50€ that the aforementioned lens costs, it is worth it. The Yongnuo lens produces a strange, slightly washed-out image in terms of colors and contrast, which requires a lot of work to fix and still doesn't yield good results.
Do not buy it. Buy either the 50mm f1.8 or the DX 35mm f1.8 from Nikon
Guys, it's better to save your money to buy the corresponding Canon lens. This lens, due to its cheap cost, lacks good quality control, resulting in constantly experiencing various issues with the aperture, lens-camera communication, etc
Nice bokeh, however, it struggles quite a bit with focus and produces photos that are not properly focused. If the focus is done correctly, the photos are fine! Sharpness loses a bit in large apertures, and it could have better colors. Obviously, Nikon's is better.. but it also comes with a corresponding price. For the money it costs, especially abroad, it is 100% value for money.
Amazing lens for night photography with aperture 1.8. For the money it costs, it is flawless.
A lens of satisfactory performance, suitable for amateur use. It is considerably cheaper than the equivalent Nikon lens, but this is also evident in the photos. It does not have the best sharpness and color reproduction, and for some reason it emphasizes whites too much. Of course, with a little Photoshop, everything can be corrected, so yes, for something that produces satisfactory photos, with little money (and let's not forget the f/1.8), it is a fairly good choice.
You can find it on a Chinese site for around €60. It is cheap and produces nice bokeh, but the autofocus often fails even in good lighting conditions. Photos that appear okay on the camera are out of focus when viewed on the computer. Not always, of course. It is great for someone who wants to move away from the 18-55 lens and try large apertures and night shots
For the money, it is truly an excellent choice. Sharp, clean 50mm for all purposes. Its construction may be entirely plastic, which makes it lightweight, but once you get used to it, the result is incredible. Perfect for portraits even in low-light conditions, thanks to its 1.8 aperture, which creates intense bokeh. Sometimes it struggles to focus and makes a little noise, but these are minor flaws. Good color representation and decent sharpness make it irresistible for the price
I have been using it for the past year and I am very satisfied. Of course, the stores here in Greece need to do a little more research and lower the price. You can find this specific one on a popular website for 60 euros. However, for its price, it is very reliable and I think a 50mm lens is a must-have to upgrade from the kit lens. I always wanted such a lens and I believe it is perfect for its price. Quite cheap compared to the company's equivalent! It doesn't have much sharpness, but I have no complaints as it does its job! The only thing that bothers me is the focusing, which is quite difficult especially for portraits and in low light. It makes noise and doesn't focus very quickly, but if you are looking for something cheaper, prefer this one! It seems to have a lot of plastic material, but it is lightweight. Overall, it is a lens that everyone needs. I have the Nikon 18-55 and 55-200, but I don't use them much anymore because this one covers most of what I want!
This cheap plastic lens is a diamond for its cost. It is sharp (although there may be slight differences depending on the piece) and visually satisfying. In APS-C, it is a bit "tight" (equivalent to 80mm) and borderline suitable mainly for portraits (head and shoulders), not really as a general lens.
Compared to the "authentic" Canon 50mm F1.8 mark II that it replicates, it is better at least in terms of bokeh due to its 7 blades (quite smooth/creamy bokeh) compared to Canon's 5 blades (harder bokeh). Sometimes it is also sharper, although it depends on the "pieces" you compare and how they turn out (Canon may be slightly sharper), but they are comparable in this aspect. Of course, don't expect everything from f1.8. Stepping down a bit if you want better sharpness is always a good tactic. At f2.8, when I use it, it has enough sharpness and maintains a rich bokeh (I use it with APS-C, which uses the center). It is also quieter (not silent) in focusing compared to Canon.
Canon, of course, released a newer 50mm f1.8 stm (7 aperture blades), which is practically silent and has stepless focusing suitable for video with AF (which the old and this one do not have), but it also comes at a higher price (same as the old Canon).
For those interested in using it for photography, it is recommended, but for video with dual pixel AF, pay the difference for the stm, which is also qualitatively (construction/materials) superior.
If it was a bit cheaper in Greece (now it is at 110 euros), for example, at 85 to 90 euros at most, it would be a hit. I hope you, who import it, consider this ;) I brought it from abroad for 65 euros and with that money, the value for money is incredible. Unexpectedly good build quality. It does not reach the image quality of the Nikon 50mm 1.8, even the "cheap" one, but surprisingly it is quite close and very good for amateur use. It focuses quite quickly and accurately, at least on the D5300. At F1.8 with 2, it loses a lot in sharpness but the bokeh is incredible! Also, the colors are slightly more "washed out" compared to the equivalent Nikon. Personally, I knew all this and I bought it for portraits and videos, and for this use, it proved to be ideal, especially at F2.8 to F4. At F2 to F2.8, you can shoot videos anywhere and you don't care what's behind the two meters! Since it is so cheap, I highly recommend it for these uses, you will enjoy it (provided you have other lenses for other uses).
I have bought it relatively recently. For its price, it seems quite good. I haven't used another 50mm lens before and I also have the kit 18-55, 55-200. It seems quite good for portraits. I consider it (and logically due to the aperture) better in this aspect than the other two.
I haven't tested it much for nighttime shots, but it is noticeably better than the other two. The photos are brighter and I don't need to increase the ISO. Generally, you play better with natural lighting.
I have no complaints for the money I consciously spent and I don't know how much better the Nikon 50mm would be.
I have the D3400 if that says something more.
It is a good lens for portraits, it has good sharpness, good aperture, the only thing that bothers it is that in the edges at large apertures it makes the white a little purple.. otherwise it is a very good lens
