The book is a historical novel set during the years of the Civil War in Veria, Thessaloniki, the mountains of Roumeli and Macedonia, but it also takes us outside of Greece to Albania and Czechoslovakia. The two main characters belong to different sides, one is an officer of the National Army, while the other fights with the guerrillas. The officer falls in love with the sister of the guerrilla, risking to destroy his career if he marries her, while the guerrilla falls in love with a village girl recruited by the Democratic Army, which is also forbidden.

During the turbulent years of the Civil War, we follow the lives of the heroes and their families who try to survive and pursue their dreams despite the seemingly insurmountable difficulties.
