Description

Together with the famous sayings
"Nothing in excess"
"Know thyself"
"Make a pledge and mischief is nigh"
engraved in the temple of Apollo at Delphi - and in a prominent position -
there was another symbol, the letter "E". This symbol attracted the attention of many scholars, who tried to explain its meaning.
The first person to deal with the decipherment of the letter "E" was Plutarch, who was also a priest of the temple, which means that he was initiated into the Mysteries and knew their symbolism.
Plutarch, being bound by the obligatory silence, lets the symposiasts express their opinions and puts his teacher Ammonius to give the correct answer: The letter "E" is the perfect invocation and address to God.
Every worshipper who comes to the oracle is welcomed by God with the phrase "know thyself" instead of "hail". And the worshipper responds: "EI" which means "you are" or "you are God" but at the same time also "you are in" which means, you are the one, the only God.
In recent years, in the Greek area, notable efforts have been made by Stefanos Karatheodoris and the academic Michalis Stasinopoulos, who brought the subject to the forefront with his announcement at the Academy of Athens.
