The global crisis is leading modern capitalist societies down dangerous paths. States are becoming increasingly authoritarian. At the height of its technological power, humanity often seems like an ungoverned ship.

Who decides for our lives? What role do the state and democracy play? Is it important to revisit what the Marxists wrote about the state? What was their opinion of democracy? How much do their theoretical analyses hold true in the modern world? What did historical experience show?

D. Kaltsonis tries to contribute to the clarification of the above questions while simultaneously proposing ideas that open horizons for a true democracy, with meaningful participation of the working classes in its decisions.
