It is not a lens for the average user. It is only for those who are looking for perfection in specific conditions.
I will start with the negatives.
It is heavy, and when I say heavy, I mean very heavy... Also, the focus from close to far is an issue when you want to do it quickly. Wide open, it vignettes quite a bit and does not provide maximum clarity if that is what you are looking for.
Positives. Vignetting and lower clarity at 1.4 can be very useful in the right situations.
When the aperture closes to 2-2.8, the lens shows its teeth. Sharper and more 3D, no lens has passed through my hands. My previous 85mm was the Sigma Art, a good lens but flat.
The manual focus, due to the long focus distance, allows for precise focusing.
Amazing Zeiss colors and incredible bokeh, regardless of the lens's 1.4 aperture, because the Art also had 1.4 but everything looks like it's on the same level...
Zeiss has the mastery to deliver results with character that make our photos unique
