Description

With this book, the author's two-volume work on the "red violence" during the period 1943-1950 is completed.

In this book, Sakis Moutzis attempts to answer the fundamental question of whether the civil war was an attempt by the leadership of the KKE to incorporate the internal political situation into the international crisis environment that was beginning to take shape in Europe and the Balkans, or whether it was a social revolution due to the exacerbation of conditions in Greece. Whether it was an attempt by the third internationalist leadership of the KKE not to integrate the party into the processes of bourgeois parliamentary democracy, in which it did not believe, or whether it was the result of the "White Terror" and the choices of the American-British factor.

The author examines the contribution of the popular democracies to the outbreak of the civil war, as well as the conditions under which it was conducted in the cities and the countryside. He tries to record the collective dispositions, the underground and visible currents of the society of the civil war. With a disruptive look, he examines the issues of Makronisos, the Extraordinary Military Courts, and the events in the Peloponnese. He records and analyzes the strategy of the KKE and the developments both in the political field and in the fields of battle after 1946. Moutzis clearly shows how political decisions are intertwined with military developments and how the latter largely determine the nature of the political system of post-war Greece.

As Nikos Marantidis states in the introduction to the book, "The 'Red Violence' is one of the best texts for historical understanding of the logic, strategy, and internal contradictions of the communist Left. Moutzis may not be a professional historian, but he proves to be an excellent connoisseur of the ideological and organizational world of the KKE, and at the same time, he is a perceptive political analyst of the communist phenomenon, and he can understand the political agendas, plans, and obstacles that the KKE faced in that given historical juncture."
