A beautiful rising actress of the German film giant UFA, which is controlled by the Nazi Ministry of Propaganda, becomes the reason for the all-powerful Joseph Goebbels to ask detective Bernie Gunther for a personal favor. Gunther will get involved in a case where nothing is as it seems.

Our hero's new adventure takes place in Nazi Germany, Switzerland, and Croatia, where the pro-Nazi Ustaše regime dominates. In Croatia, indescribable violence prevails and a civil war rages between groups representing different ideologies and different interests. The unrepentantly cynical Bernie Gunther, who trusts no one, tries to carry out the mission assigned to him.
