Description

The book "Report to Greco" is an autobiographical novel, published for the first time after the death of the Cretan author, with special care by the writer's faithful companion, Eleni Kazantzakis, and his close friend, Pantelis Prevelakis. "Report to Greco" is a kind of spiritual autobiography or - as often characterized by Kazantzakis himself - a "report" in the military sense of the term, regarding his goals and efforts. The author begins the narration from his childhood and marks the end of his story at the moment of the development of his great personal Idea which he called "Cretan Glance" and the conception of the "Odyssey".
The author himself notes in the Prologue of the work: "My Report to Greco is not an autobiography; my personal life has some, very relative, value only for me, for no one else; the only value I recognize in it is this: the struggle to climb from step to step and reach as high as my strength and persistence could take it - to the peak I arbitrarily named Cretan Glance. So, reader, you will find in these pages the red line, made from drops of my blood, marking my course among people, passions, and ideas."

This edition is part of the New Revised Contemporary Edition of the complete works of Nikos Kazantzakis, in which the works of the classic author are re-edited. The book is released with a scientific introduction by Marina Grigoropoulou, while the Epilogue includes a text by Patroklos Stavrou, as well as an editorial note by Nikos Mathioudakis.
