Stella is a young woman who doesn't know how to love. Sensitive but with an unrefined character, mysterious yet confessional, she never got over the fact that her mother didn't love her. She lived a life of vagrancy, but eventually managed to enter the high society. Over time, she became fascinated by power and used it to the detriment of others. She preferred cold sex over the tenderness of love, lies over sincerity, amorality over humanity. Many fell in love with her, but she lost interest in her lover as soon as the next one appeared. She didn't behave this way out of caprice. She simply didn't know how to love. She wasn't used to giving or receiving. She believed that in matters of relationships, attack is the best defense. She fell victim many times, but she also turned into a perpetrator just as often.
Stella's narration seems harsh and cynical. Perhaps because the heroine herself is made that way.
