Description

The intensive and repetitive use of media by the political class demonstrates the privileged relationship between media and power. For this reason, the interplay between media and political life is a key factor in understanding the power structures of modern society.

L.V. Thomas (to whom this volume is dedicated) argued that power is closely linked to death (there is "the power of death", power "over death", and finally power "through death" as an illusion of the imaginatively sought immortality). Since there is no social organization without power, death is the ultimate point to which it tends! To have power over someone else symbolically means to surpass (subdue) one's own death (through the "extermination" of the other). Just as "pleasure-seeking" lives with authorization, so the public is symbolically "nourished" by the victory of a specific "power".
Furthermore, modern culture, having invested in the "capture of life", sows death everywhere and leads to alienation and destruction from the artificial world it has constructed, while simultaneously projecting fantasies of escape or hope. In this context, it is no coincidence that violence is dominant in television broadcasting (since television remains a dominant medium - in the sense that it has imposed modern "television culture").

In this volume, an attempt is made to record the characteristics of modern forms of power mainly through the representations of media narratives.
