Every day the same
Rachel takes the same train every morning. She knows it will stop at the same signal, at the same time, and she will see the same houses next to the tracks. She even starts to feel familiar with the couple who lives in one of them. She calls them "Jess" and "Jason". In her eyes, their life is perfect. Rachel wishes she could be as happy as they are.

Until today
And one day she sees something that shocks her. It lasts just a moment before the train starts moving again, but it's enough. And it changes everything. Now Rachel has the chance to become part of the life she has been watching from afar. Now it's time for them to realize: she is much more than just a girl on the train...

A breathtaking psychological thriller, in the footsteps of the successes "Gone Girl" and "Before I Go to Sleep".

I started reading this book with hesitation. It was the first time I chose a psychological thriller as I usually avoided this genre in both books and movies. However, The Girl on the Train made me fall in love with this type of books. It is a bit difficult to talk about it without revealing details of the plot, but I will do my best.

The protagonist, Rachel, is not a very reliable narrator. She observes everything from a distance. Sometimes she gets involved in the events, and other times she chooses to stay out of them. She knows everything thanks to her observant nature. However, this can be dangerous. While reading, the character of the detective comes alive within us, but I doubt if anyone managed to discover the truth from the beginning or in the middle of the story. This is because everything constantly gets overturned, the action intensifies, and the suspense reaches its peak.

From the beginning and even before the middle of the book, you understand that the story hides something deeper. It talks about how difficult it is for a woman to accept reality when she realizes that all her dreams and plans for her future have become impossible. The characters are realistic and have their flaws, as evident from the narratives of the three women. The author emphasizes the similarities between the three women, which is an important element for the flow of the plot.

By reading The Girl on the Train, one can realize that it is not just a mystery-murder book. The unexpected and highly revealing ending redeems the protagonists of the story. Lastly, you will be surprised by the fact that, just like the characters in the book, we might share connections with people we encounter daily on the street but are unaware of.

A captivating story that is worth reading! I highly recommend it.

The Girl on the Train is published by Psychogios Publications.

  • Readable and nice plot. If you have read "In the Water Trap", you will like this one too. I believe female readers will enjoy it more than male readers, as the main characters are women and this might tire male readers a little.
