Description

In the new best seller by the widely translated master of the detective novel, John Verdon, veteran inspector Dave Gurney, who was the top detective in the New York City Police Department's homicide division, faces a mysterious case: he is called to support the possible innocence of a woman who has already been convicted of the murder of her husband - a gifted politician and gubernatorial candidate - who was shot dead by a bullet of unknown origin while delivering the eulogy at his mother's burial.
Seeking new evidence in the case, Gurney finds himself entangled in a dark confrontation with a corrupt police investigator, a disturbingly friendly mafia boss, a young woman synonymous with temptation, and the bizarre childlike killer who has earned the nickname "Peter Pan."
Through unexpected twists and relentless action, Gurney ends up trapped in one of the bleakest cases of his career - a mystery of successive murders, beneath the surface of which lies the human incarnation of absolute evil. And no matter how poisoned by lies the web he must unravel is, Gurney discovers that the truth surpasses even the most shocking imagination.
And the identity of the killer, at the core of the case, proves to be the biggest shock of all...

"Verdon started strong with "Think of a Number" and continues to impress with every thriller. Labyrinthine puzzles, explosive suspense, multi-layered characters"

My daughter has it in her collection and I happened to read it a few days ago, coincidentally.
I had never read a book by this author before (I am a fan of historical fiction) and I was pleasantly surprised by the plot and the suspense until the end.

An excellent mystery book with an excellent structure that helps you follow the story with interest. Definitely one of the best detective thrillers I have read and I would recommend it with closed eyes. The plot is unique and has been crafted with great attention to detail. Unfortunately, it has some notable "issues". The author has stretched some moments much more than necessary, resulting in the book becoming tiresome at certain phases. Additionally, although the translator has done an excellent job, there are many typographical errors, mainly the lack of spaces between words, which, although it did not bother me, may bother many others.
