The idea for the "Two-Year Breaks" belongs to N.D. Triantafyllopoulos. The narratives about the Teaching of Secondary Education, during the two-year period from February 1972 to January 1974, were published in Nea Estia (from issue 1770, September 2004, to issue 1793, October 2006). However, the "Two-Year Breaks" are not only a valuable document for the history of modern Greek education, during the critical period of the last two years of the dictatorship, but they also present a lively interest for current issues of secondary education, either directly (teaching literature) or indirectly (evaluation of teachers, staffing of Education). It is worth noting that the philologists - to whom our Chronicle is essentially limited - of this first series of retrained teachers of the reformed Teaching will staff Education in the post-dictatorship years and will renew the teaching of humanities subjects. They were people who knew letters, they were not inflated heads with futile theories. And above all: they loved the tranquility and the buzz of the school. My joy to host these texts in Nea Estia was truly great. Now that they are circulating in a book, in the series "Estia of Ideas", this joy is doubly fulfilled. Equally great will be, I am sure, the pleasure and benefit of the careful reader.
