Description

This collective work, "The Politics of the Image: Between Iconolatry and Iconoclasm", aims to fill a gap in the reflection on the relationship between Art and Politics, and more specifically, issues concerning the image and its effects both in the field of Art (painting, cinema, visual arts) and in the Social Sciences, considering them as an integral part of today's audiovisual culture.

The publication of this volume includes presentations that were given at the conference organized by the Department of Communication and Mass Media at the inauguration of the new building of the Film Archive in Laïda, in October 2009.

This gesture is not perfunctory, but highlights the need for the formulation of an archive policy, which in our country has remained literally suspended. The texts in the book reflect the collaboration between Universities (Greek and foreign) and the Film Archive within the framework of the 6th Festival of Avant-Garde Cinema, a starting point for the deepening of the role of the archive as a museum, a digital library, and an ark of cinematic memory.
