The LeBron XXI evolves the low profile of the LeBron XX with premium lightweight materials modeled after the properties of an oyster shell. It is designed for the next generation of basketball. Inspired by the concept of protection for the modern player, the upper part of the shoe is inspired by an oyster shell, protecting the pearl inside.

Nike has reinforced the lightweight mesh material by using a 360-degree zonal thread system for optimal foot containment. Everything is covered with a premium, lightweight fabric, creating a sense of coverage.

Using lightweight materials, the upper ventilation is ribbed to resemble the vein of a shell, helping to contain the player during explosive movements. This containment is depicted by a lightweight monofilament that is reinforced by 360-degree zonal cables around the midfoot, aiding in the support and security of the player over the footbed. The perforations in the mid Swoosh provide enhanced breathability.

More specifically, under the sole, the shoe features a Zoom Turbo unit at the front of the sole and a 13mm Zoom unit at the bottom for propulsion support. A full-length Cushlon 2.0 foam carrier for a soft feel and a TPU shank in the midsole provides stability and additional push for dynamic movements.

The durable plastic surface placed on the upper side offers stability and higher responsiveness to dynamic movements.
