Description

"The Ghosts of Theater" is the third volume of Scenes of Theory. While the first two volumes deal with general issues of theory and philosophy of theater, here the focus is mainly on more specific thematic areas: the reception of ancient Greek myth, Kastoriadis and Attic tragedy, Pirandellian thought, the ethics of situations in Sartre, the form of the ghost in contemporary Greek drama, mnemonic places and heterotopias, gender diversity and feminist theories.
The ghost of theater, the ghost for theater, can also be philosophy, as it haunts it from the beginning, long before the expulsion of poets from the Platonic city-state. However, theater itself also generates ghosts, from the moment it wants to represent not only the past or a dead person, but often the unspeakable, the unrepresentable, the unimaginable. Ghosts of theater, therefore, and ghosts for theater, entities that haunt theater, but are also created by it, as theater inevitably inscribes itself in the field of memory, as well as in that of imagination, in any case, in the radical questioning of human existence and the roles it is called to embody and incarnate in life."
