Description

The F31 by HJC is a jet helmet, which, thanks to its open design at the bottom of the face, can be put on and taken off with ease. It is considered one of the lightest types of helmets, however, it leaves a large area of the face uncovered, therefore it is less safe compared to a full-face helmet. It is made of Polycarbonate It fastens with a microlock, which allows you to fasten it easily and quickly. The helmet has the new European safety certification "ECE 22.06", which ensures that the helmet is tested at 18 impact control points instead of 6 as before. Additionally, it features a sun visor, which is an internal sunshade film, like glass, for protection from the sun.

This review is about the colour: Gray

Owner of a few days only but the positives and the big negative were immediately apparent.
I have a 750cc motorcycle and a scooter and the helmet will be used only for the scooter and only within the city, which does not have extra wind protection in the front. (clarification for evaluation conditions)

The order was made through the internet after trying on the folding helmet of the same company i91 and the jet i40n. Since the size was Large in the two I tried, I proceeded with ordering the same size, which is correct according to the head measurement and the company's sizes.

    Positives:
    1) The helmet is not the classic simple city jet but a closed helmet with the chin part missing.
    2) Subjective, but the fit and the feeling it gives you are very good. You feel like you're wearing a flip-up helmet with the chin guard up but without the extra weight.
    3) The visor comes down very low on the chin for very good wind protection and it sits in two additional intermediate positions apart from fully open and closed, which are probably few but it sits very firmly and is unlikely to fall off from the wind. It also has two small ears on the bottom right and left that hold the visor very well and tighten the helmet a bit on the cheeks, which gives you an extra sense of security. It has a pinlock slot, but it is not included in the package.
    4) The sun visor comes down to the nose, has good coverage, and has the Hjc trick that you can adjust it to three positions with the switch on the side. Personally, I didn't change it from the default because it suited me. I would have liked it a bit darker, but it is quite good in bright sunlight.
    5) The air vents are three inlets on the top and an outlet at the back. This was mainly the reason why I chose this one and not the i40n, which has only one inlet and no outlet. With the three vents open, you feel the air quite well inside the helmet.

Otherwise, the inner pads are fine, the closure is classic, and the weight is relatively good for the 22.06 specifications, and the overall feeling is very good until you hit the gas and it comes....

    The big negative:
So, you start with 40 degrees that we have now, and you want the visor open. And everything is fine until 30km (!!!).
After thirty, an incredible noise-whistling starts, like when it blows very hard and you open the balcony door a little. It also has volume up because the more you increase the speed, the louder the whistling gets until you reach 60km when you have to close the visor because you can't stand it anymore. If we say that the positions of the visor are 1 fully closed, 2-3 intermediate, and 4 fully open, in 3 and 4, it is unbearable, in 1 and 2 it stops but in 2, a lot of air enters and it bothers your eyes when the sun visor is down. The same applies in all combinations of conditions, in the city among buildings, on an open road without buildings, with full ventilation and with a lot of air. And when it blows hard and you have headwind, it starts a bit before 30.
In communication with the seller, the answer was, of course, that the helmet should be closed for safety reasons, that the air vents work better with a closed visor, and that Hjc has its own aerodynamic tunnel. Well, I would say that they should pay attention to this and it shouldn't happen because surely many riders with 40 degrees in the city and speeds of 30-40km would want the visor open...!!
The whistling stops if I turn my head to the right or left, which you obviously can't do while driving, and when you put your hand on the back of the visor. So now I'm looking to come up with a solution using some compact rubber or foam material that I will stick to the helmet because after many attempts with my hand, I'm sure that's how I will stop the noise. The photos show what needs to be done. This completely stops the noise.

I'm not writing the website because I don't know if it's allowed, but if you search on Google for hjcf31 review, you will find it... (copy-paste)

When the visor is in the open position, which is often the case for me, it makes a loud whistling noise. I tried some experiments to see if it was something else, but it definitely seems to be the visor. Keep in mind that I'm riding at around 30mph and it was loud enough for me to completely remove the visor and ride without it.

The helmet makes a loud, very unpleasant whistling noise when the visor is open; to prevent this, you have to tilt your head slightly downwards.

I have now ordered a spoiler attachment for the windshield to influence the wind currents. If this attempt doesn't help either, we'll have to go to (name of the store where it was purchased).

We believed that with a new, up-to-date helmet from HJC, we would not only achieve a safety gain, but also an advantage in usage. They test it in the wind tunnel according to the latest findings, don't they? I'm just saying "make it worse"!!!!

In itself, it's a good helmet, unfortunately, it has an extreme whistling when the visor is open, which I unfortunately have to consider as a criterion.

It's a shame because if it wasn't for this, the helmet would only give you positive impressions...
    Sorry for the lengthy review...
