Description

In September 2004, Valia Sourmeli, a hardworking and low-paid private employee in her thirties, is hired as a literature reader by Laura Braimi, a cultured middle-aged woman who lives in a villa in the city and has recently lost her vision in a major accident on the London subway. Valia begins reading aloud to her employer-listener, initially only in the afternoons and later all day, five days a week, except for weekends: every Monday morning she starts where she left off on Friday evening. Along with Laura, we "listen" to excerpts from ten authors: Valtinos, Cavafy, Camus, Karagiozis, Maupassant, Roidis, Sembat, Spinrad, Chandler, and Hatzis. At the dining table, after the readings, both the books being read and various literary issues are discussed, while reference is made to many other writers.

Now partially living in the villa, the reader discovers the joy that reading offers and begins to cultivate herself, changing in many fields simultaneously. At the same time, she develops a close relationship with Laura and her surroundings, where the Scottish old servant Robert stands out. However, the fact that she is compulsorily expelled on weekends and is even forbidden to approach the villa makes her wonder what strange things are happening there at the end of each week. Until one Monday, she realizes that a reader of the weekend has appeared.

A novel about the "passion" of literature itself and the strange attraction it exerts on its readers. At the same time, a book about the unpredictability of human relationships.
