If this game wasn't Assassin's Creed but an independent title, as a pirate simulator it would definitely have received rave reviews. The combat and navigation system of your ship is incredible. The hand-to-hand battles are somewhat boring and easy, the story is simply interesting and unconventional, not always in a positive way compared to the other games in the series, with characters sometimes good and sometimes indifferent. The protagonist, however, has a very good redemption arc and while he may seem indifferent at the beginning, in the end you become attached to him. The underwater parts of the game are mediocre and the exploration and collectibles usually don't offer any substantial findings beyond psychological satisfaction and beautiful scenery. The world outside the animus is quite interesting, although limited to a few floors of a building, and the hacking mini games, although not something special, unlock quite interesting things about the universe and Edmond's story. In general, even if you're not interested in the world of Assassin's Creed, it's worth enduring the boring parts of the game to experience the pirate experience!
