This volume includes one hundred short essays on the spirit of our times, structured into three sections covering topics from history, spirituality, and Greek life. The selection of texts, from publications in an Athenian newspaper, was made at the author's discretion for what was worth "saving from the flood of time within the ark of a book". Despite the tendency towards generalizations, the essays are responses to the challenges of everyday life.

Man dramatically experiences the tension between ephemeral time and eternal timelessness. He lives his life's time between these two tendencies. He lives the ephemeral as an eternal drama and the eternal as an ephemeral drama.
