Description

The book aims primarily to present the options and practices that led to the collapse of public health insurance, with the "symptoms" it highlights being found in almost all public organizations in the country as a result of the gradual institutional decay of the public sector during the period of Metapolitefsi.

Despite its direct writing style, the book is not accusatory. However, the author's critical approach to the process of institutional regulation and decision-making in the crucial field of health reveals the inertia that the central administration showed for years in the face of trends and economic factors, which ultimately led to the current outcome. Furthermore, the book presents initiatives of progress and innovation that, if attempted earlier, would have resulted in different "resilience" of the healthcare system in the crisis.

Through the author's presentation of his experiences from managing what we call the "state," this work emphatically highlights the following: just as for decades public health insurance moved away from the obvious towards the unthinkable, today, under the unprecedented economic conditions experienced by the country, it must seek more than ever the obvious, namely its sustainability, which is so necessary for maintaining social cohesion and addressing the inequalities caused by the crisis.

This, in turn, means that it is necessary to move away from the exclusively fiscal perspective of health issues and adopt the -obvious- position that investing in health in a rational way is a prerequisite and not an obstacle to the desired development.
