Simply an incredibly useful product for anyone taking notes. I got it for my daughter in her first year at university and she hasn't used paper again. She takes notes even during class presentations, amazing writing feel and practicality, it multiplies productivity. Get it with your eyes closed...
I will start by saying that I am impressed by the fact that these devices have not yet penetrated the Greek market. I only had superficial knowledge until I saw another model of Kindle up close and realized the practicality and elegance of these gadgets, as well as their quality as devices.
It is an excellent alternative to a tablet/iPad for the average student, as it makes the note-taking process much easier and more enjoyable than having to carry around a hundred different notebooks and getting lost in sheets of paper and finished pens. The texture of the screen with the included stylus is quite satisfactory, resembling that of paper, and the quality of the notes is equally good. The notes can be divided into files, organized into folders, and sent via email wherever you want, while also offering convenient customization options for each "notebook" you create (pen type and thickness/page type, etc.), making the whole process easier and more enjoyable, as I mentioned above.
As for reading on this specific E-ink tablet, as the name of the screen type it uses suggests (E-ink), it operates in a completely different way from a regular screen, and how comfortable it is for the eyes is something that one can only understand by seeing it with their own eyes. When you set the brightness to 0, the "screen" does not emit any light and does not strain the eyes. Also (unlike a regular screen), when light falls on it, the text on the screen becomes more legible instead of getting blurry and unreadable. Even when you add brightness to the screen for nighttime reading or other reasons, due to this specific technology, you don't feel like you're looking at a screen unless you look extremely closely or set the brightness to the maximum. Regarding books, I have to say that I spent at least a day playing with all the customization options for each book (font/font size/boldness of letters/sentence and paragraph alignment, etc.), resulting in a more comfortable reading experience than before, tailoring each book to my preferences. Moreover, if you read books in English, it comes pre-installed with the Oxford dictionary, so you can instantly find the meaning of any unknown word you select in your book (it works even without internet access).
Regarding storage, I would say that even the 16 GB model is more than enough, as the average book without images is only about 0.5-5 MB in size (if it's in the usual ePUB file format) and can reach up to a few tens of MB (rarely over 30, and only if it's a PDF). In any case, it's difficult to fill it up. The battery easily lasts for days; personally, I go about three weeks between charges.
I have had the device for a relatively short time, and I am already very satisfied (even more than I expected), which is why I wrote this review. I would recommend it to someone who doesn't want to carry the weight of a book everywhere but would like to have the option of effortless reading wherever they are.
I would also highly recommend it to anyone who wants a tablet for note-taking and reading articles/books at half the price of an iPad and without the unnecessary distractions like social media, etc.
