Description

Playing in a famous horror movie, Final Girl is a solo-only game that puts the player in the shoes of a female protagonist who must kill the slasher if she wants to survive. The Core Box, when combined with one of our Feature Film Boxes, has everything you need to play the game. Each Feature Film Box features a unique Killer and an iconic location, and the more feature films you have, the more killer/location combinations you can experience! In gameplay terms, Final Girl shares similarities with Hostage Negotiator, but with some key differences that change it, including a game board for tracking locations and character movement.

You can choose from many characters when selecting someone to play and many killers when selecting someone to play. The killers and locations each have their own specific terror cards that will be shuffled together to create a unique experience with various scenario combinations to play!

    General thoughts:

The overall production seems impressive and beautiful. The graphics resemble comics, while the magnetic boxes where the feature film boxes completely detach to form the board for the location and the killer are exceptional in concept. The cards could be of slightly better quality.
I'm not usually moved by horror movies, just like horror games. However, this one grabbed me from the beginning and immediately immerses you in the atmosphere without giving you a chance to think about it.
The rulebook is well-crafted, extremely structured, and has many examples. In fact, in ambiguous or dilemma situations, they have an excellent triple rule of survival and choice.
When you read the rules, the first thought that comes to mind is, "Well, I won't win in this chaos with so many locations and the number of victims increasing and being slaughtered." However, the phases are very well balanced.
I consider the management of time (in some cases, it is preferable to spend it) and the action cards that you make sure to keep for the next action phase or the killer to be very important.
The organization of the boxes is excellent, and the setup is very quick. Additionally, the actual playing time and completion of the game are relatively short (I would say ideal for such an experience).
A significant drawback of the game is that it does not allow you to play the game with the core box. They could have at least included one heroine, one simple location, and a typical killer for learning the game. They could also recommend starting with the feature film "Happy Trails Horror," as it does not add any additional rules.
Another downside in the design is the use of minions. It is a clever idea, but its implementation has been done hastily and problematically (it is not coincidental that it is commented on the penultimate page of the rules without clear examples).
I dare say that it is a storytelling horror game since it truly creates the feeling of a movie with a plot that unfolds in front of you so quickly that you enjoy it. The magical thing is that it happens without much narrative text!
I'll conclude in the classic way: can a solo game, especially a horror one, fit in the class? Definitely! Moreover, with slight modifications to the rules to reduce the duration (e.g., fewer lives for the killer or an additional die), it will significantly help. After all, only the text of the rulebook or the storytelling of the story after completing the scenario are excellent activities for oral speech and text comprehension.

P.S. The price of each package is very good. The total price of the package (if you get the all-in on Kickstarter or from the company) is a bit high because, essentially, there is no discount for getting everything. They could have included the figure of the villain in the feature films...

P.P.S. I love boxes that work with magnets, but I don't know how they will be after some time because they start to warp and open on their own.

P.P.P.S. It would be interesting to see it in a version where someone can combine two locations and two heroines.

    Rating: 88/100
