Description

The recent social, political, economic, and cultural conditions and the consequent unprecedented scientific developments and rearrangements (e.g. the expansion of knowledge, the positive and negative achievements of new technologies, the globalization of the economy, population growth, intense competition, the strengthening of the individual against the collective, the expansion of living standards, the development of biotechnology, genetics, and neuroscience, the questioning of universal values, etc.) have urgently led to the development of a new perception, a new term, the "Universal Design," to facilitate the individual and social life of citizens.

In the field of education, Universal Design is reflected and implemented in the "school for all" (inclusive school). The new trend of inclusive education refers to the effort to recognize the individual differences of each student and utilize them in the educational process within the framework of the inclusive classroom. Thus, there is a trend towards greater interaction and integration of special and general education, aiming at their creative unification.

We believe that the time and opportunity have come for Special Education to offer and exchange positions, values, and achievements with General Education. With the integration of children with special educational needs into mainstream schools, general education as a whole can be enriched through joint research programs required by the new trend, with new approaches to teaching (e.g. Differentiated Instruction) by new sensitized scientists at a theoretical and practical level, with new organizational-administrative and modern scientific infrastructure.

At the same time, the interdisciplinary nature of Special Education helps in the dissemination of research data from one scientific field to another, with the ultimate goal of developing the strategies and techniques necessary for acquiring knowledge, skills, and attitudes required by modern society.
