Description

[...] The texts for Christiannopoulos' poetry cover a period that exceeds half a century (1950-2002). Regardless of the selected texts, a quantitative conclusion can be drawn: Over time, substantial critical discourse is replaced by a more superficial journalistic discourse. Valuable critical and philological texts are still being written today; "superficial" approaches were attempted in the 1950s, but - as known - exceptions confirm the rule.

The compilation of a volume with critical texts concerning the work of a poet implies the acceptance of that specific work as significant. Subjective perception leads us to believe that poems like "Magdalene," like "Remorse," like "One Minute of Silence," like "Almond Trees" and "End," like "The Forest" and "The Thorn," like "Whores and Informers [...]" (the list can be significantly extended with other poem titles) will not be absent from future anthologies. However, there are also two more objective indications of the value of Christiannopoulos' poetry:
a) It attracts and has attracted the attention of critics and philologists, while it had and has - even in times of poetry devaluation - remarkable readership appeal,
b) It is preferable to avoid the incomprehensible and pompous term "school," but we must point out that Christiannopoulos' poetry has influenced several of his compatriots, both his contemporaries and younger ones.

The orthographic form of the texts and the tonal system of their authors have been preserved. Only obvious typographical errors have been corrected.
