Could a nightmare be used as a murder weapon? This is the strange question that Dave Gurney faces in John Verdon's new best seller.
The top detective of the New York Police Department's homicide division, who has retired from active duty, is called to solve an incomprehensible puzzle: four individuals living in different parts of the country, seemingly unconnected, have the same dream – a terrifying nightmare featuring a bloody dagger with a wolf's head handle. All four are found with their wrists slit – suggesting suicide – and the weapon they all used is a dagger with a wolf's head handle.
The police's suspicions immediately focus on Richard Hammond, a controversial psychologist who conducts hypnotherapy sessions at Wolf Lake Chalet, an ancient, eerie inn in the Adirondack Mountains – the place where the four victims had visited Hammond shortly before their deaths.
Disturbed by the strange gaps in the official explanation, Gurney decides to conduct his own investigation – something that puts him in the crosshairs not only of a cold-blooded killer and the local police but also the secret services.
Gurney's enemies, relentless like the snowstorm that has trapped him in the chilling environment of Wolf Lake, try every way to keep him away from the truth, even driving his beloved wife, Madeleine, to madness.
With his mental reserves depleted, Gurney is now forced to engage in a deadly battle against the most terrifying opponent he has ever faced.
Wolf Lake is Verdon's new thrilling suspense novel, which the New York Times has called a masterpiece, and it narrates the adventures of Dave Gurney, whom critics have compared to Sherlock Holmes.

He got involved in conspiracy theories with murders and ended up a bit lost. It gets tiresome in several points and has a repetitive pattern that doesn't really draw you to read it. Many pages without reason. For me, it's very boring and the fact that the whole story unfolds in a specific place and doesn't have many changes. I wouldn't recommend it.
