I have used this specific bike rack 3 times. The installation took me quite some time because the instructions are very brief. Maybe the video I watched in another review can help.
The rack is stable and sturdy and attaches to the sides, top, and bottom with 6 straps. It includes an additional strap to securely hold the bikes.
I have only put one bike on it. I have a mountain bike, regular size, and I cannot support the bike on the horizontal axis because the support axle with the "tire" that holds the bike does not fit. In order to load it, I tie the bike to the horizontal axis of the bike and to the vertical axis of the seat. This results in one wheel of the bike protruding slightly outside the car's limits.
Also, it is not possible to load a small bike. Anything smaller than a regular bike, due to the same issue. So if you are considering it for a child's bike, it does not fit.
Quite stable and high-quality base. The initial installation took a little time as expected, but after that, it becomes very fast.
Stable, high-quality, it takes a little searching to find it at first and to fit it perfectly, but with a few experiments and the manual, you can easily do your job without any problems, worth it. It can fit 3 bicycles attached alternately.
Excellent base! It fits very nicely on a Yaris 2003. I have put up to 2 bicycles weighing 18 + 9 kilograms (total weight: 27) and the base did not budge. On a 350 km trip on a national road, everything went perfectly! The only downside: Although it has plastic bases, they leave marks on the trunk door.
In the 2006 TOYOTA Corolla, I couldn't install it. The bike mounts were too high (above the car's roof) and there was also a small margin for "play". My bike didn't fit, but that could possibly be solved differently, I didn't investigate further. All the materials are included and are of relatively good quality for its price. Finally, what I didn't like was that the entire base could only be placed on the specific vehicle on the glass without touching the metal. Very dangerous.
I was waiting for the test of the National Road to make the evaluation. I can now confidently say that it is the best solution for transporting bicycles.
Very good. If you fix it the first time, then you put it on very easily. Very sturdy on both plastic and glass support surfaces. In a station wagon with a speed of up to 110km/h, as it says in the instructions, you couldn't hear anything from the air (of course, I had tied up any excess straps so they wouldn't flap). In children's and women's bicycles with a small "triangle", both rods do not fit, so one goes through the middle and the other goes underneath.
After almost 1 year, it's a pretty good product. Sturdy and safe. The clamps were in the packaging and I hadn't noticed them. The bike doesn't slip from its position and it's easy to put in and take out. It can accommodate up to 2 bikes at most. Three would be excessive
So I have had this particular product in my possession for over a year and have used it several times, so I will share my experience with you for any questions someone may have who is looking to purchase this specific product or something similar.
We are talking about the Menabo Mistral.
It is a very value for money product that I highly recommend to anyone who wants to comfortably and safely transport their bike or bikes.
It comfortably accommodates two bikes and with a little squeezing, if it is a mountain bike, a third one can fit. If they are road bikes, it easily fits three!
It is very easy to assemble, but there is also a video on Youtube for assembly if desired.
It transports the bikes comfortably and securely, without leaving any marks on the car or the bike.
Very good value for money if assembled correctly and with care, it can withstand both speed and weight, but caution is required when combining the two. With patience, it has even withstood up to 3 29-inch tires.
The base is sturdy, but check your bike, mine has a tight fit on the handlebar and it passes with difficulty and does not secure one of the rubber bands properly. I secure it with small bungee cords, but other than that, it's a great purchase
Stay away.
It has a serious flaw/deficiency in its design: the plastic parts that the bicycles touch are inserted into "tubes" that have a "stop" at the end, which is simply a cap with a screw that does not sit on the metal but in the air (it pushes the plastic outwards so that it cannot come out). As a result, with vibrations and minimal heat, the cap softens and easily comes off (you can remove it by pulling it with your hand). Then the plastic that is on top of the bicycle comes off and the bicycle itself comes off...
This happened to me, resulting in damage to the car, but also with the risk of the bicycle completely coming off. Trying to understand how the cap came off, I simply pulled the other one with my hand and it came off without much difficulty. In other words, it is not a construction error in this specific base, but a general error in the design.
It's a matter of debate whether I had used it 2-3 times and never left it in the sun. It was practically brand new.
Great! Athens to Serres, I comfortably rode a 29" bicycle for 120km.
The installation was very easy, within 5 minutes.
You secure the wheels and pedals to avoid scratching.
Very good and easy to install. You don't need more than 5 minutes if you know what you're doing.
I transport 2 large bicycles (29in) and I have no problem.
Very good bike rack for 2 large bikes. We put a 29er and a 26er. Our car is an Opel Zaffira and we had no issues with installation.
I believe a third one doesn't fit no matter how hard you try. Good assembly and installation instructions.
Easy installation.
Kids, this definitely doesn't work for small and very small bicycles. Only with adapters, like the ones I used. Even the large one doesn't fit exactly. The installation is easy, I would say. Watch a tutorial video alongside and you won't have a problem. I have done a 2-3 kilometer route, so I didn't have a problem. Now, the dangerous thing is if it touches the glass, I would say not to overload it and avoid such a problem. If I see something else along the way, I will inform you. Oh, and definitely not 3 bicycles. I can barely fit one small and one large. It's visible in the picture. For Opel Astra J 2011
Good, but not for more than two bicycles. Also, it is not the easiest to install, but I believe this applies to all
Flawless base. In case it is not clear, it includes rubber-like marks in the package so that the metal hooks do not touch the car and ruin the paint. Stable construction and at a very good price.
Good and sturdy product, easy to assemble and fits well on a Yaris. I gave it 4 stars because it can be quite difficult for one person to install it on the car, especially if the trunk shocks are damaged or too soft.
Very good material and relatively easy to assemble. The only problem is that it doesn't fit small bicycles. You have to figure out a way to make it work.
Very good and honest for its price.
What
My positives.
1) Reinforced and strong construction.
You can tell from the moment you hold it.
2) It has a wide range of adjustment options on the car.
3) Good quality straps.
4) You can easily fit three bicycles and a mother-in-law on top.
Good base but be careful, it does not fit all car types. In a Peugeot 407 with some modification, it eventually fit on the hood. Generally, for such types, it is good to communicate with the supplier before placing any order
It is a very good base and very good in quality. It fits well on many cars. The only downside is that it should have protective cushions at the points where it hooks onto the car. It can fit 2 large bicycles or one large and 2 smaller ones with difficulty and effort.
Very stable, no need for cushions or tape on contact points if tightened well enough. Fits two bicycles and even at speeds +180 it didn't budge at all. It's good to carry straps with you, they were needed 1-2 times for extra fastening on moving parts (wheels, handlebars, pedals, etc.)
Very stable. I had no problems during the trip. If you figure out how to apply it the first time, it's very easy afterwards.
Very very good application, sturdy and stable.. Insulated hooks so it doesn't leave marks. ******
Stable and very easy installation (audi A3 2008) even though my bike fits barely (Ballistic Hermes). Worth it!
Very good stand, although I would prefer the stands where the bike does not turn and flip upside down, to have some type of locking mechanism because as soon as you put the bike on, it flips upside down due to the weight... other than that, very sturdy construction, worth it!
