While I tried it with a recommendation from an endocrinologist (due to a high amount of EPA) for reducing LDL cholesterol, it did NOT bring any results for me.
If the issue is hereditary/genetic and you have high lipoprotein (Lp(a) >30), it probably will NOT help you.
My husband took it for 3 months, 2 capsules per day as instructed by the doctor due to triglycerides. Along with diet, exercise, and medication, he repeated the tests and there was no difference. The taste and smell are very unpleasant.
I have been taking it for 5 days. 1 capsule/day. My blood pressure has dropped a bit and I feel a little more cheerful. It is extremely .... aromatic, with an oily taste. I will come back in a month for triglycerides.
So I started taking epavasc because of high triglycerides and an unacceptable atherogenic index, following a medical recommendation, as statins were causing unbearable muscle pain.
Omega-3 fatty acids do not replace the cardioprotective effects of statins, but they are effective in reducing triglycerides, increasing good cholesterol (HDL), etc.
(I want to say that those who have medical conditions - diabetes, etc. - and cannot take statins should not rely solely on this, but should add appropriate foods to their diet, exercise in their routine, quit smoking, etc. These fatty acids only help with the indicators, without having the anti-inflammatory action of statins that reduce the risk of heart attack by up to 25%.)
So in case you have to take pills but they cause side effects, this product may be the best option as two sachets per day meet the recommendation of the American Heart Association for a daily intake of 4g of EPA and DHA.
Now, onto the disadvantages that are rather trivial compared to the benefits:
- The monthly cost is significant if used as a treatment and requires 4 packages (55-65 euros), but it remains the cheapest and highest quality option with these characteristics.
- It has an unacceptable taste, it smells terrible, and I have to drink it with lemon juice (I have no idea if this is correct).
- It only comes in one package. We hope for larger and more economical options.
P.S. I will come back with test results.
P.P.S. Here, let's say that those of you who are healthy should not waste your money on such products. Eat sardines and salmon, fruits, nuts, etc., and have a glass of wine. They cost the same and do a better job.
