This book is a personal literary notebook, a "myriobiblos" in miniature. During my journey into the fascinating world of the art of language, I discovered surprising and enchanting encounters. As I engaged in dialogue with the texts, I saw that they were also engaging in dialogue with each other. Sometimes this dialogue was intentional - there was a conscious effect - and sometimes it was not. I realized that the best way to understand literature was through literature itself. I arrived at an expanded version of the ancient method "Homer explains Homer." One work illuminated another, the old penetrated the present, and the barriers of space and time were abolished. And whenever I saw this happening, I felt like I was discovering a hidden treasure, which would be lost if I did not record my findings.
At the same time, I sought to create a personal rule, in defiance of the rules imposed by universities or the book market. It would be a rule that would not be dictated by any conventional wisdom, nor would it succumb to the contemporary triviality of unquestioning acceptance of everything - on the contrary, it would function as a center of resistance to the tyranny of trends.
Therefore, this book is the result of these two endeavors, namely the effort to present the findings I gathered during my long journey through the texts and my - more instinctive than deliberate - attempt to create my own purely private rule.
As for the nature of the texts that comprise it, I believe they are neither exactly articles, nor philological studies, nor essays. I would characterize them as "centers" for literature. Except for "The Demonized Harlequin," which was presented in "Dentro," they were all published for the first time in "Avgi." I want to thank Stamatis Mavroeidis for being a moral collaborator.
