Description

At the end of 2007, Greek banks were at their peak. Billions in profits, impressive growth, acquisitions in the Balkans, and the spectacular increase in bank stock prices on the Athens Stock Exchange were the routine of those carefree days. Banks were the definition of success.

However, this impressive journey proved to be short-lived. From the peak of 2007, it didn't take even six years for them to find themselves back at zero. In the years 2011-2012, the losses of Greek banks - largely a result of the PSI - not only wiped out all the profits they had made in the "golden" decade of 2001-2010, but "devoured" all of their capital. Thus, a new term entered our lives: recapitalization.

This book describes the feverish journey of the Greek banking system and how it went from the zenith of 2007 to the nadir just a few years later, with bank shareholders losing all their capital. The book also refers to the responsibilities of the banking system for the emergence and prevalence of an economic model that produced little and consumed greedily! A model that was bound to lead to a deadlock.
