The crew of the schooner "Duncan" finds a bottle at sea containing three notes faded by the sea. Combining the contents of the three notes, the owners of the schooner, Lord Glenarvan and his wife, learn about the shipwreck of the "Britannia", a ship commanded by the visionary captain Grant. They then decide to search for the survivors of the shipwreck all over the world, relying only on the latitude where the shipwreck occurred. They will also take the captain Grant's children with them. During their journey around the world, they will encounter a series of obstacles, most of which have been devised by a cunning adversary. Will they eventually manage to find the exact location of the shipwreck? And if so, will Captain Grant have survived after all this time?
