Description

When Simone de Beauvoir was nine years old and attending the Catholic school "Adeline Désir," she met Elisabeth Lacoin, nicknamed Zaza, a girl who immediately caught her attention.
A friendship will develop between them that, from the perspective of the future great French writer, will also have the nuance of early, unconscious, romantic desire.

In Zaza, de Beauvoir will discover all the qualities she will later wish to possess in her own life: boldness, independence, curiosity, creative restlessness. Thus, this influence will prove to be decisive for her subsequent personality.

However, The Inseparables hides a tragedy: Zaza dies unexpectedly. A disaster that will haunt de Beauvoir forever.
De Beauvoir is certain that Zaza did not die from viral encephalitis, as the doctors claimed. She was murdered; her death was a "spiritual crime."

More contemporary than ever, this classic novel has a unique power and charm. As Simone de Beauvoir herself said: "And if, tonight, my eyes are tearful, is it because you have died or because I am alive? [...] I know that you are nowhere anymore and, precisely, through a literary device, I speak to you here."

  • Unfortunately, I didn't like it... It probably wasn't for me... I was expecting something completely different... I found it very boring. :/
