The "thread" from the "meaning" is only one letter apart. However, that one letter makes a very significant conceptual difference.
The book deals with what its title says: the threads, the strings, the paths of meaning that connect a range of disparate things. Very disparate things!
The Threads of Meaning exist everywhere. But it requires a magical approach, magical thinking. 

In Magic, the pattern is recognized, in Science it is discovered (the word "discovery" implies something that already existed). Magic does not care if the pattern is "true" or "false", as long as it can be experienced. After all, the magical method is to act as if the theory you adopt is true until you get your work done. Then you discard it and replace it with another.
