"God does not need a prosecutor: Church, blasphemy and Golden Dawn" is a collective volume by the Greek Association for Human Rights (www.hlhr.gr) that deals with the emblematic issue of blasphemy in Greece today. Based on two events that occupied the public discourse in 2012, the violent interruption of a theatrical performance and the police ban on a social networking page, we were led to incidents of traditional censorship. These incidents are not exactly unprecedented in Greece. However, they are certainly unfamiliar to the liberal mindset. As documented in the book, they are part of a continuous discourse of extreme conservatism that has always exploited a rather majority part of the Orthodox Church in order to secure its own establishment in Greek society on more hegemonic terms, as well as a more privileged position in the state. However, where the authors converge - and this is the unpleasant news that the recent incidents bring us face to face with - is that a new unholy alliance is now being formed in the fight against blasphemy. An alliance with neo-Nazism under the tolerance, acquiescence or even collaboration of parts of the Orthodox Church.

Therefore, God does not need a prosecutor, especially not from the statutory enemies of democracy. The authors present, interpret and establish a democratic political community in the face of the responsibilities it has towards violence and xenophobia. The book is primarily a warning to institutions in a fragile conjuncture.
