"Blindness" is an imposing allegory about the conflict between the spirit and reality, about the greatness and misery of the solitary thinker in the world.The protagonist of "Blindness" is Kien, a famous sinologist, who lives isolated in his gigantic library. The whole world for him is inside his head, but his head does not matter at all to the outside world. When the old, cunning housekeeper traps him and forces him to marry her, Kien is confronted for the first time with everyday life, and he "saves himself" by seeking refuge in madness.
