Description

This amazing story begins on a pier in the port of New York, at the moment when a young German-Jewish immigrant breathes deeply the excitement of his arrival. It is the primary seed from which a thriving tree will be born, a great family and economic history that proved capable of changing the world. Sharp and rational, Henry Lehman moves to the American South, opening a fabric store. But the cotton produced by slaves on plantations is only the first test of the commercial intelligence called Lehman Brothers (because in the meantime, his brothers Emanuel and Mayer have come close to Henry). Over time, cotton will be replaced by coffee, sugar, coal, and especially by the new horizons offered by the financing of the railroad industry. The parents will be succeeded by the children and in turn by the grandchildren, in a sequence of different human characters, sometimes similar, sometimes opposite....

Penetrating and impressive like a fireworks display, "The Lehman Trilogy" is a unique book that cannot be defined by the traditional separation of literary genres. In Massini's text, the novel merges with the essay, the epic merges with the theater, with continuous references to cinema and song, even reaching the realms of mathematics and comics. It is an entirely new literary genre, in which the struggle between the 19th and 20th centuries opens a path to the future.
