For about twenty years, young people in Greece have been perceived as one of the most significant problems of the era. Their behavior seemed inexplicable, while their deviation from the way of life and values that traditionally regulated the lives of young people until the post-war period terrified the adult world.
During the period somewhat expansively referred to as the "sixties", various groups of young people with "disobedient" behavior emerged, attracting the spotlight and sparking a public dialogue about the roots and consequences of the "problem": rebels without a cause, beatniks, hippies, dropouts, or simply "misfits". These young people were agents of a broad questioning that, based on their youthful "modern" culture, turned against the conformity of adults and the prospect of a settled life. This book attempts to explore the history of the "modern youth", the content of their questioning, and its relationship with other aspects of the political, social, and cultural reality of the sixties, especially the period from the coup d'état rise of the colonels to power (1967) until the Metapolitefsi.
