Excellent game, its rise to the top of the global rankings is not random! Of course, some board game background is required for the brain to digest it, but for what it offers, it is considered friendly to the average player.

You take on the role of one of the protagonists of the story and using the cards you have in your hand, as well as those you acquire during the game, you try to either increase your influence in various houses or win battles, or both. Every time you visit a location on the board by playing a card, you gain resources or soldiers, depending on the type of location, as well as from the card itself, depending on its properties. Also, in each round, the bonus for winning battles changes, so in some rounds you may decide to focus only on increasing influence and not on battles.
Despite the fact that the game receives high ratings, my personal opinion is that it is somewhat one-dimensional for its genre, as it does not give the player a wide range of strategic choices beyond those mentioned above. Additionally, in the final scoring, elements that could have a positive impact on the depth of the game and the possibility of twists are not taken into account at all. For example, the resources you have collected, the total influence you have achieved, the total battles you have won, the total value of the cards in your hand. None of these are rewarded with victory points at the end.
On the other hand, the aforementioned negatives for me may be seen as positives by others, as they create a relatively simple strategy game that, combined with its popular theme, explains its success.
The materials and design are excellent, but at such a price, I expect more.

Anyone who has played Cyclades and enjoys that style will definitely love this! In terms of rules, it has quite a few things, but they are the mechanics of the game. At first, they may seem complicated, but as you play, they become simpler and you quickly understand them. It involves strategy, resource management, battles, and thinking, and you are fully engaged. It's great for a group and addictive for kids! I highly recommend it. The price may be a bit high, but it's worth it and more! We played with 3 people and it was chaotic but a good kind of chaos. I can't imagine what it would be like with 4 :P It's a crazy game, guys!
Update 16/1/2024: After playing it a lot, we bought the expansions Rise of Ix and Immortality. We haven't played the second one yet because we have collected many other more exciting games, and we usually gather at least 5 people for our sessions, so our little Dune game has been left on the shelf... Nevertheless, it remains a top game that deserves to be in your collection. However, I would recommend going straight to Uprising, which is a reissue of this game with the ability to play up to 6 players and some additional extras that I can't remember to write down. Also, the expansions play normally!
