Description

"Power is not a means, it is an end. You don't establish a dictatorship to protect a revolution; you make the revolution to establish the dictatorship. The goal of persecution is persecution. The goal of torture is torture. The goal of power is power."

Winston Smith, a clerk at the Records Department of the Ministry of Truth in London, skillfully manipulates the Newspeak and rewrites the past to serve the Party. A mere cog in the system, suffocating in a world of absolute control by the watchful eye of Big Brother, while the Thought Police are constantly on alert, considering everyone a potential dissenter. From the moment Winston attempts to challenge the bleak reality, he will embark on an adventure with an unpredictable ending.

1984 was first published in 1949; it described a dark future, with people enslaved by a tyrannical Authority. It remains relevant for its depiction of efforts to restrict thought and freedom by those in power, as well as the nightmare of limited possibilities for resistance.
