Description
This book critically examines the performance of the Greek governance system (or simply, politics) during the period 1993-2010. It analyzes the tensions, outcomes, and rationale behind major plans, from "modernization" and "state reconstruction" to the current multidimensional crisis (public economy, competitiveness, environment, law enforcement, public virtue, etc.). The author goes beyond the mere flow of events, breaks away from convenient interpretive frameworks, and deconstructs the myths that accompanied the developments of the period.
The author transcends the usual distinction between economic and political analysis. They unreservedly adopt approaches from modern political economy and highlight the importance of political behaviors, prevailing ideas, organized interests, bureaucratic entanglements, established institutions, and external factors, utilizing the relevant findings of research.
This book updates a previous analysis by Panos Kazakos in "Between State and Market: Economy and Economic Policy in Post-War Greece 1944-2000" (Patakis Editions, 2001) and contributes to a creative reworking of recent history, which also constitutes our present.
