Description
The Geneva Conference - which was convened in August 1974, after the first phase of the Turkish invasion in July of the same year - undoubtedly marks one of the most critical periods in modern Cypriot history. The three guarantor powers - Greece, Turkey, and Great Britain - as well as the two communities of Cyprus were present at this conference. The Greek Cypriot side was led by the then Deputy President of the Republic of Cyprus, Glafkos Clerides, and the author also participated in it. Desperate efforts were made at the conference to halt further Turkish military advance, within a very dangerous international environment, with the direct involvement of the major powers at the time. As the author explains, who was present throughout the conference, the Greek Cypriot side was facing not only the danger of further Turkish military advance but also the possibility of the dissolution of the Republic of Cyprus.
This book - besides the fact that the author participated in the Geneva Conference and describes accurately everything that happened there - is an important contribution to recording the history of this specific period.
