The period between 1984-1986 is a relatively unknown or at least forgotten period in modern Cypriot history. And yet, it is of particular interest, as during this time there were intense efforts by the Secretary-General of the United Nations to bridge the differences between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides. Additionally, the Summit Meeting of the leaders of the two communities took place in New York in January 1985. During this period, the two communities were close to a solution to the Cyprus problem, with the formulation of very advanced positions. The author was a member of the Greek Cypriot delegation throughout this period and actively participated in the negotiations and consultations described in the book.

This study by Polyvios G. Polyviou is an important contribution to modern Cypriot history, presenting and analyzing information that is seeing the light of publicity for the first time.
